Graduate Student Fee Revenues provide the GSO with a consistent and stable revenue stream of approximately $65,000 per semester generated by the $15 graduate student fee. In the Fall of 2005 the Board of Regents approved an increase in the graduate student fee from its earlier $5 amount to the current $15 fee ($10 in Spring 2005 and $15 in Fall 2006) as indicated in the figure below. A portion of the revenue is used to cover operating expenses and executive stipends but the largerst portion of fee revenues are redistributed as Grants & Awards (see Grants & Awards below).

Over the years the GSO has saved a working reserve of monies that are used to generate more income in the form of interest payments that suppliment the GSO Grants & Awards program. The interest income has been a significant source of revenue for the Grants & Awards program yielding between $10,000 and $20,000 annually.

As a result of the increased graduate fee and other investments the GSO has been able to maintain a Grants & Awards program that promotes graduate student research and improves the reputation of UH by supporting conference papers and academic presentations around the globe.
